LOCA Testing

STATE-OF-THE-ART TESTING FACILITIES FOR

LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) Testing

RTRC Limited is accredited as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017 recognized by ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) signifying international acceptability of test report. RTRC offers one of the most advanced LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) test facilities in the world – Approved by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

A loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) is a mode of failure for a nuclear reactor; if not managed effectively, the results of a LOCA could result in reactor core damage.

Why the LOCA test Required?

The purpose of the test is to assess the safety systems that are designed to prevent or mitigate the consequences of a LOCA. These safety systems may express as the cables, sensors, cabinets, emergency coolant injection systems and other safety measures.

The LOCA test is a critical part of the safety analysis process for nuclear power plants, as it helps to ensure that the plant can withstand an accident.

Features
  • There is a well-defined SOP.
  • Temperature and pressure overshoot safety measures incorporated
  • This test chamber’s cylindrical shape of 1800 mm (height) x 1500 mm (length) can accommodate cable diameters of up to 75 mm at appropriate bend radius.
  • Software maintains the pressure and temperature in the test chamber using an electrically operated steam boiler.
  • The imported compressor (KAESER-Germany) has been installed exclusively for the test and can be adjusted to any pressure profile and controlled by software.
  • The frequency and quantity of BORIC acid can be adjusted by software. An automatic feed tank with a capacity of 100 litres feeds BORIC acid automatically.
  • CRM grade chemical is used for BORIC acid solution.
  • During testing, the cables can be charged with rated current and voltage.
  • Digital display of all test parameters.
  • Integrate data logging.
  • During the test, the test parameters are displayed on the laptop screen.
  • PNG generators and diesel generators provide backup power.
  • EOT crane installed for easy and safe handling.
